Pilates

Pilates will challenge you physically and mentally. It centers around alignment, control, breathing, and concentration. There is a strong focus on the core in every class. It is especially beneficial for those recovering from an injury or surgery. The main focus here is mid-line stabilization with flexibility, balance and power to be explosive. The use of springs on the apparatus allows for less stress on the joints and a good way to ease an athlete into a more vigorous regiment with free weights if you so desire.  It provides big compound movements for the body, moving it in all directions and planes, allowing the joints and muscles to experience their full-range of motion. The exercises allow you to work your muscles concentrically and eccentrically, paying close attention to alignment details and breath. Pilates builds body strength, and flexibility.

Through practicing Pilates you can expect a toned body, increased flexibility, and improved mobility. You may also find that you become more in tune with your body. In terms of mental benefits, you may feel less stressed and more focused. On the apparatuses there is nowhere to hide your weaknesses. As a lot of seasoned athletes come in for the first time and say, “wow, that kicked my ass!”

I modify exercises to suit your practice and have taught everyone from NBA athletes to athletes coming out of hip replacements. Pilates is truly a lifelong fitness regimen for anyone.
